The PNG Government's Department of Treasury appointed an expert Review Team to examine the laws and institutions that protect consumers and competition in PNG, with a view to updating and improving these where possible. Following consultations with the public, the Review Team reported to Treasury in May 2017. The National Executive Committee subsequently approved the Final Report as submitted and approved implementation of its recommendations.
The Review Team's Final Report and Recommendations is now available to download.
A Public Consultation Paper: PNG National Competition Policy is available for download, with public comments welcomed until Friday, 15 June 2018.

Competition and Fair Trading
The Government considers that competition is important as a means by which the welfare of PNG's people can be improved. The Government intends the competitive process to have full scope to operate in PNG's goods and services markets.
The ICCC Act protects competition by prohibiting certain kinds of business behaviours that damage or prevent competition in markets.
The Consumer & Competition Framework Review will examine the competition laws under the ICCC Act, how those laws have been administered, and the needs of businesses operating in PNG's markets.
Competition and fair trading issues are discussed in the Second Issues Paper, available for download here.
